BCO’s celebration of the 225th anniversary of Rossini’s birth concludes with what Rossini scholar Richard Osborne called ‘Tancredi Revisited.’ Based on Voltaire’s tragedy Semiramis, Rossini’s Semiramide is a tour de force of bel canto-era opera seria, employing vocal virtuosity to communicate gripping drama. Secret identities, power struggles and murderous intentions come together for a fitting closer to BCO’s season of operatic tragedies.
