Kate Farrar, mezzo soprano
Mezzo Soprano Kate Farrar is a recent transplant to Maryland, having completed a two year residency with Portland Opera in Portland, OR. She has performed leading roles with companies around the country, most recently the title role in La Cenerentola with Portland Opera as well as Dorabella in Cosi fan Tutte, Giovanna in Rigoletto, and Siebel in John Frame’s new collaboration with Portland Opera and the Chicago Lyric Opera’s production of Faust.Prior to Portland, Kate was a resident with many companies including Chautauqua Opera, Opera Saratoga, Sarasota Opera, and Opera North. She performed a variety of roles with these companies and other regional houses including Wellgunde in Das Rheingold, Claire in Cold Mountain, Frau Mary in Der fliegende Holländer, Mercedes in Carmen, and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. This summer she joined the Santa Fe resident artist program.
Kate holds a MM in Opera Performance from The A.J Fletcher Opera Institute and a BM in Vocal Performance from UNC-Greensboro. Her awards include an Encouragement Award from the Chautauqua Opera Guild (2014), and North Carolina State Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Council Competition (2014).
