When considering Rossini’s last opera, most people think either of its "Lone Ranger" overture or the indelible image of a boy with an apple on his head, waiting for his father to loose an arrow. But there is so much more to Rossini’s epic retelling of the medieval Swiss hero who longed to liberate his people from Austrian occupation. ‘Tell’ is a story of revolutionaries fighting an implacable enemy, of lovers separated by war, and of the archer at the heart of the uprising, accompanied by the music of a master at the height of his compositional powers.
